The Sam Houston Bronco freshman
baseball team used timely hitting
and eight walks to beat DeRidder HS
freshman 10-2 on Monday night in
DeRidder. Not to be outdone; Austin
Gordon, Derek Laporte, and Evan
Campbell all showed their stuff on
the hill, throwing 7 innings of 2
hit ball. Campbell backed his 7th
inning, 3 up 3 down mound time with
a towering home run over the left
field wall.
Eric Peterson led the Broncos
at the plate with a 2 for 3
performance, knocking in 2 runs with
a single and a double. Collin Kober
added 2 hits, one a perfectly placed
bunt that he followed with a slick
steal of home to score the 6th
run of the game. Kameron Esthay
reached base every time at bat,
contributing 3 walks and a base hit.
Gordon started on the mound.
He allowed 2 hits and 2 runs in the
first inning before settling down
and striking out 3 batters in 3
innings of work. He was relieved by
Laporte, who also threw 3 innings,
striking out 5 and only allowing 2
runners to reach base via walk.
The Broncos will travel to
Jennings on Wednesday to make up a
rain-out game at 4:00.
