SHHS Freshman Broncos Pound
St Louis
The SHHS freshman baseball
team defeated the St Louis
Saints 10-0 on Monday in the
first played home game of
the season. After a
scoreless first inning, it
looked like the game may be
a pitchers’ duel after
Kameron Esthay shut down the
Saints in the top of the
second, but that’s when the
bats came alive for the
Bronco nine. Eric Peterson
scored on a passed ball
after leading off the inning
with a stand-up 3-bagger.
Blake Caswell walked, and
was promptly knocked in with
a 2 strike double by Adam
Chase. Derek Laporte then
singled, followed by a 2 rbi
single by Zach Rome to give
the team a 4-0 lead. Sam
Houston then scored 5 runs
in the 5th
inning, highlighted by a 3
rbi double by Kameron
Esthay.
Esthay started on the
mound for the Broncos and
baffled the Saint hitters
with a good mixture of
fastballs and off-speed
stuff. He allowed no runs on
1 hit, 2 walks, and 3
strikeouts. Lefty Laporte
added an inning of no hit,
no run ball (1 walk, 2 k’s);
while Jack Hall finished the
night in 3 up, 3 down
fashion in the 7th
inning.
The Broncos scored
the 10th run in
the 6th inning as
Esthay singled, David Pignot
doubled, and Peterson drove
in the final run with a two
base knock. Rome (3-3, 2b)
and Esthay (2-3, 2b)
finished the night with 3
rbi apiece.
The freshman Broncos
are now 10-1 on the season,
with the lone loss coming
against the Merryville
varsity team 3-2.
