SHHS Freshman Broncos Overwhelm Sulphur
Tors
The Bronco freshman baseball team broke out the big sticks in a game against the
Sulphur Tors at home Wednesday night. The team scored in all six innings en
route to a 15-5 win. The Bronco batters set the tone for the game when the first
five batters reached base via a hit in the first inning, highlighted by Evan
Campbell’s 2-run howitzer over the left field fence. Sam Houston battered the
Tor pitchers with 19 hits. Kameron Esthay led the hit parade with a 5 for 5
night that included two doubles and 4 rbi. Also having big games at the dish
were Zach Rome (3 for 5, 2 R, 4 RBI) and Eric Peterson (3 for 4, 2 doubles, 2 R,
1 RBI). Collin Kober (3 runs scored), Adam Chase, and Austin Gordon all had 2
hits apiece.
Starting pitcher Campbell was the
recipient of the great offensive night.
He didn’t have his best stuff and
struggled in the middle innings, but
finished the game as the winning
pitcher. He pitched 5 1/3rd
innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while
walking 3 and striking out 2. Derek
Laporte finished the night on the hill
with 2/3rd innings of no hit
ball.
