Bronco
Freshman Clobber Saints
The Sam Houston Bronco offense
usually doesn’t need much help on
offense the way they sting the ball.
But the St Louis Saint freshman team
was more than willing to help out in
their home game against the Broncos
at Legion Field on Monday night.
SHHS won 17-6 in a game that was
highlighted by a 13 run 5th
inning. The Saints actually outhit
the Broncos 9-8, but committed seven
errors and threw in 10 walks from
their pitchers.
In a game that was fairly close in
the first 4 innings, the team sent
19 batters to the plate in the
pivotal 5th. Kameron
Esthay kept up his torrid hitting
pace, banging out a 4 for 5 night
with 2 rbi. Zach Rome, Evan
Campbell, Eric Peterson (2b), and
Adam Chase all had hits in the game.
Rome and Austin Gordon had 3 rbi
apiece.
Collin Kober started on the mound
and got the win for Sam Houston.
Although control was an issue at
times, he gutted it out and
scattered 8 hits and only allowed 2
runs, striking out 2, while walking
3. Derek Laporte came on in the 6th
inning and ended the game under the
10-run rule. He pitched one inning
and allowed 4 runs (although none
were earned) while striking out 1
batter and walking 2.
