Bronco Freshman Outlast
St Louis
The SHHS Bronco freshman
baseball team defeated
the St Louis Saints
12-11 in the 3rd
game of the year played
between the teams. Even
though the team had
already beaten the
Saints handily in their
first two meetings, they
lived up to the saying
“That’s baseball…” The
young Broncos built an
early lead in the bottom
of the 4th
inning in Moss Bluff on
Monday night, giving all
the fans in the stands
the false hope that they
may make an early night
of it. Not to be denied,
the Saints frosh rallied
for eight runs in the
top of the 6th
inning making the score
11-10 Broncos at that
point. Sam Houston
answered with a run in
the bottom of the 6th
and held St Louis to a
single run in the top of
the 7th,
ending the game on a
double play liner to
Zach Rome.
Rome, Eric Peterson,
and Kameron Esthay led
the way for the offense
with two hits each. SHHS
scored five runs in the
bottom of the 3rd
inning, using only one
hit in the process.
Esthay doubled home two
runs in that inning,
while walks and
potential plays at the
plate plated the other
three runs. Four more
runs were tacked on in
the 4th
inning, highlighted by
Blaise McCoy’s two run
double to the left
center field gap. McCoy
later scored on a
sacrifice fly to right
by Jack Hall. Collin
Kober, Evan Campbell
(2b, 2 rbi), and Blake
Caswell added hits for
the offense.
It
was definitely not a
night for the pitchers
for either team, as the
score would indicate.
Bronco hurlers allowed
12 walks on the night.
Kober gave the team a
solid effort as the
starter, allowing only
one run on two hits,
three walks, and one
strikeout. Austin
Gordon, Jack Hall, and
Derek LaPorte also saw
action as the game wore
on.
The Broncos season
record stands at 14-2.
