BRONCOS DOWN JENNINGS IN IOWA TOURNAMENT

Sam Houston defeated the Jennings Bulldogs in their first game of the Iowa round robin tournament. Five extra base hits contributed to the 8-6 victory. Colin Kober (2 for 3), Blake Caswell (1 for 2), Blaise McCoy (1 for 2, 1 r), and Zach Rome (1 for 1, 2 r, 1 rbi) all had doubles in the win. Evan Campbell added a triple and 2 rbi to the mix, while Adam Chase was 1 for 3 for the game.

Starting pitcher Austin Gordon got the win pitching 4 innings and striking out 3. Brett Gault (1 K) provided middle inning relief and Derek LaPorte earned the save with 2/3rd inning of work, both outs by strikeout.

SHHS DEFEATS HOST IOWA IN TOURNAMENT

The freshman Broncos strung together six hits to beat the Iowa Yellowjackets in the final game of the tournament, 5-1. In usual fashion, the team started off fast with a 2 run first inning, highlighted by a Colin Kober lead-off single, a triple by Kameron Esthay,  and a sacrifice fly by Evan Campbell. Kober was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Austin Gordon padded the lead in the second inning with a 2 rbi base hit scoring Blaise McCoy (1 for 2, 1b) and Derek LaPorte. Campbell capped the scoring for Sam Houston with an rbi double in the 5th.

Esthay went the distance on the mound for the team. He allowed only two hits and no earned runs while striking out five. The team put themselves in great scoring opportunities all game long with four sacrifice bunts.

The Broncos will face Iowa one more time in the final game of the season at home in Moss Bluff. Their record now stands at 17-2.
