BRONCOS FINISH SEASON WITH 13-3 VICTORY

Sam Houston’s freshman baseball team finished the season the way they started it – playing the Iowa Yellowjackets. The home team was in control all afternoon in Moss Bluff. The Broncos loaded the bases to start the 1st inning thanks to walks to Colin Kober and Kameron Esthay, sandwiched around a base hit by Zach Rome. Evan Campbell then walked to drive in the first run. Adam Chase followed up with a single that plated another. Blaise McCoy then lashed a double to the right center field wall to garner two ribbies. Derek LaPorte capped the scoring with a two run single.

Sam Houston scored two more runs in the second inning highlighted by an Eric Peterson triple to drive in a run. The team also scored single runs in the third and fifth innings, with Blake Caswell knocking in a run in the third on a sharp single.

Esthay was his usual steady self on the mound. He went the distance and earned the win with his six inning complete game. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts.

Rome paced the Broncs with a 3 for 4 night and 3 runs scored. McCoy had 2 hits and and 3 runs scored, and Kober scored 3 runs from the lead-off spot. Eric Peterson also had two hits, the second was the game ender as the Broncos finished the game off with the 10 run rule win. Their final record was 19-2.
