Bronco
Freshman Baseball Collars Jennings Bulldogs
The SHHS freshman baseball broke out the
big sticks Wednesday afternoon to back a great
pitching performance. The result was a 12-2
victory at the Jennings Bulldogs. Evan Campbell
led the Bronco hitting attack in a big way with
a 3 for 3 performance that included 3 doubles
and 7 rbi. The Bulldogs wised up and walked
Campbell in his last at-bat. Bronco batters had
10 hits and 10 rbi offensively. Other
contributors to the onslaught were Collin Kober
(3 hits, 3 runs) and Adam Chase (2 hits, 1 rbi).
Zach Rome had a sweet bunt for a base hit and
Eric Peterson scored 3 runs during the 6 inning
game that was limited to a 4-run max score per
inning. Defensively, Sam Houston committed only
one error.
Kameron Esthay and Kober kept the
Bulldogs off balance all afternoon showing a
good mixture of breaking balls and hard stuff
from both the left and right side of the mound.
Lefty Esthay struggled a bit in the 1st
inning (which seems to be a trend with the young
team) allowing 2 runs. He got in a groove and
finished with a pitching line of 3 innings
pitched, 2 runs, 2 hits, 3 walks, and 2
strikeouts. Kober followed him from the right
side, allowing 0 runs in 3 innings pitched. He
struck out 5, with only 1 walk.
The freshman team will face some stiff
competition in the Tioga JV tournament this
weekend. They will play 2 games on Friday and 2
games on Saturday.
