JV vs Sulphur - 03/
02

The game got off to a good start for the Broncos, when on the second pitch, Dono L. hit a double over the right fielder. That was quickly followed by an RBI single to left by Tyler D. scoring Dono.  As the second baseman and shortstop were conferring with the pitcher on the mound, Tyler ran to an unattended second base bag since timeout was never called.  He then stole third and came home on an RBI single to left by Tyler R. Next batter, Ben W., got a single to right moving Tyler to third and going to second on the throw to third. Justin C. walked to load the bases, but the next batter grounded to the pitcher ending the inning. Two runs scored in the top of the first.

Lance Q. started on the mound for the Broncos but had some control problems.  He beaned the first batter; however, that runner was later caught stealing by a good throw from catcher Matt L. and tag by our second baseman.  Next batter was beaned also.  A bad pickoff throw allowed the runner to go to second. Next batter walked. Fly out to right for the 2nd out. Double steal with runners now on 2nd and 3rd. Both runners scored on a single to center. That runner then scored on another hit to center. Another walk and we changed pitchers.  Tyler D. came in and had a shaky start to his pitching performance also. He walked the first two batters he faced, with another run scoring on a passed ball,  then struck out the third. End of first inning, Sulphur was up 4-2.

Things settled down in the second inning, as we had two batters strike out, Dono L. got beaned, and the next batter strike out. Four up and three down for both teams in this inning.

Sulphur changed pitchers to start the third inning, a right hander this time (#15). Chance T. started off with a well hit double down the left field line that bounced off the fence; he advanced to third on a wild pitch; and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Tyler R. The Broncos closed the gap to 4-3.

Sulphur scored a run in the third when their second batter up struck out but got to first on a missed third strike that bounced in the “dirt” (if there were dirt on that field). He was followed by a hit to right, a passed ball, and a couple of ground outs. Score now 5-3 SHS.

Fourth inning got off to a great start for the Broncos when Justin C. hit a long double that short hopped to the left field fence; he later scored on a passed ball. Taylor L. had an infield hit, then stole second; moved over to third on a ground out, and then scored on an infield hit by Dono L. Tyler D. followed with a sharp one-hopper that got by the shortstop. Tyler got into a run down between first and second which allowed Dono to score from third. Tyler then went to second after the late throw to home. Broncos now up 6-5.

Sulphur had a strike out then a bunt single but the runner got doubled off first after a line shot out to Ben W. at third base. End of fourth: SHHS up 6-5.

Fifth inning, Tyler R. had a base hit to center. However, the next batter hit a grounder to second and both Tyler and the batter, Ben W., were called out for runner interference at second base trying to break up the double play.            Sulphur had another 4 up and 3 down inning with one bunt single. Still 6-5 Broncos.

Broncos had a 4 up and 3 down sixth inning with Justin C. getting a single to right. However, he was thrown out at third after a bad pick off throw to first from the pitcher.

Sulphur had two singles to center in the sixth but one of the runners was thrown out at home by a nice throw from our center fielder, Tyler D. End of sixth: 6-5 still.

After two outs in the seventh, Chance T. walked and went to second on a wild pitch. He then scored on a single up the middle by Matt L. Broncos now up 7-5.

Sulphur had another 4 up and 3 down inning in the seventh and final at bat.  One single up the middle with two outs, then a ground out to third to end the game.  Broncos win 7-5.

After the first couple of batters he faced, Tyler D. settled down into a good groove and had another solid game pitching.
