In baseball, any team can be beaten on any day. That is the beauty of this game. You don’t have to have 300 pounders opening holes for some speedster to run through. You don’t have to have a guy that can jump out of the gym and shoot the 3 from 20 feet away. You have to be able to hit a little, pitch a little, throw a little, run a little, and know the game and how it’s played. For 2 ½ innings Tuesday night on the hill, Washington-Marion stood toe to toe with the Sam Houston Broncos. Then in the 3rd inning, the Broncos scored 15 runs, turning Cinderella back into a pumpkin with the final tally being 20-0. The Charging Indians threatened in the1st inning and 2nd inning, but both times, starting pitcher Justin Chesson got out of the jam. In the Bronco half of the third, 10 Bronco batters walked and 5 had hits as they sent 20 batters to the plate. Andrew Guillotte started the carnage by drawing a walk, Donovan Landry got to first on an error by the 3rd baseman. Evan Powell then hit a double driving in Guillotte. Landry scored on a passed ball. Ethan Logan then walked, Garrett Logan then walked, Billy Sommers then singled driving in E-Lo and G-Lo, DJ Johnson on his first game back from a broken wrist, drew a walk, Travis Montgomery then singled, Blake Felts was then hit by a pitch, Guillotte was then hit driving in Montgomery, Landry reached on a fielder’s choice, Powell hit a grand slam, E-Lo was then hit by a pitch, DJ walked again, Montgomery walked, Felts then hit a single driving in 2 more Broncos. Perry Chatman then entered the game for Guillotte and he reached on an error and finally the inning ended on a flyout by Chase Guillory who had subbed for Landry. All in all, 15 runs scored. The Broncos scored 5 more in the 4th inning, as Brock Guarino got on by another error on the 3rd baseman, Dylan Champagne in for E-Lo hit a single, Matt LeBlanc in for G-Lo hit a single, Sommers singled, driving in Guarino and Champagne, Chance Terrell reached on an error, Orlan Lockhart walked, Chatman walked, Guillory walked, and Guarino got a hit and rbi driving in somebody!! The Bronco runners were intentionally picked off the bases to end the inning. Pitching for the Broncos were, Justin Chesson (2 innings, 3 walks, 4 k’s, no runs) Kyle Denman (2 innings, 3 k’s, no runs) Sommers (1 inning, 1 walk 3 k’s). Top hitters: Powell, 2-3 (homerun, double, 5 rbi’s), Guarino 1-2 (rbi), Champagne 1-1, LeBlanc 1-1, Sommers 2-3 (4 rbi’s), Felts 1-2 (2 rbi’s). |
